Jyoti Diwas observed in Silchar
Staff Correspondent
SILCHAR, Jan 17 - The Silchar branch of the Asam Sahitya Sabha commemorated Jyoti Diwas, the death anniversary of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala amidst various activities here on Thursday.

Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, unfurled the Sabha flag to begin the proceedings and paid floral tributes along with other distinguished personalities at the portrait of Agarwala.

“The State is passing through a testing time and people across linguistic barriers must seek inspiration from the illustrious life and works of Agarwala. We must spread his messages of unity and brotherhood to overcome the divisive efforts. There is barely any difference between the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys and this is manifested in the way Agarwala had worked to assimilate different communities into the mainstream of Assamese society,” Rajbongshi maintained.

Two open sessions, including one at Assam University, Silchar have also been lined up to mark the occasion.
