7-year RI to 4 police housing officials

 GUWAHATI, Jan 17 – The Court of Special Judge, Kamrup today convicted four officials of Assam Police Housing Corporation and awarded them seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for misusing Central funds allotted for housing loans between 1994 and 1997 in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts.

A fine of Rs 50,000 was also slapped on each of them and if they fail to deposit the fine, the imprisonment period will be extended by another one year.

Those convicted include Ramnath Doley, Parthapratim Sarma, Hemanta Bora and Dhanjit Sarma. The convicted were charged with forging land documents and signature of senior district administration officials while masterminding the embezzlement.

Although the anti-corruption wing of Assam Police had named six persons as accused, Mahendra Bora and Bholanath Hazarika were acquitted by the court.
