|Woman raped, 2 constables held|
SILCHAR, Jan 15 - Cachar police arrested two persons in connection with the alleged rape of a 30-year-old Mizo woman at Silchar railway station recently.
Additional SP (HQ) Jagadish Das informed The Assam Tribune on Saturday that based on an FIR with allegations of rape against GRP men by the victim who had come to Silchar for tourism purposes, police arrested two persons who are working as constables in the Government Railway Police at the railway station. “The two persons have been identified as Uttam Roy and Sharif Uddin Barbhuiya and they have been sent to 14-day judicial custody after they were produced before court on Friday,” Das informed.
Meanwhile, condemning the incident at the railway station, people of Silchar belonging to different associations staged a protest demonstration at Khudiram Bose point in town and demanded a thorough probe and stringent punishment for the guilty via Fast Track Court.
