City police now on Facebook, Twitter
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, Jan 15 – City Police is now your facebook friend! In a novel move, City Police has joined social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, a move which is aimed at greater public participation to facilitate effective policing.

All the local police station in-charge along with the Deputy Superintendent of Police and the SSP (City) could be posted anytime in a day.

Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Prakash Tiwari told this reporter that the idea is to bridge the gap between the police and the general public through effective participation.

“Assam Police had already initiated a number of programmes to ensure public participation. This new endeavour aims to cater to the techno-savvy section of the city population, especially the youth,” Tiwari said.

From now onwards, any person can inform the police about their grievances by posting in the facebook account of the City Police and also by tweeting.

He also informed that a special desk would be on work to pass on the messages, suggestions or any kind of thoughts to the authority concerned.

“Even police stations, which would act on any specific tip-off, would be linked. However, the right to reply to pubic grievances would be reserved to a select number of police personnel,” the SSP divulged.

The Facebook account (Guwahati City Police) of the City Police have in it cell phone and landline numbers of 18 police officials, including the SSP (City) and SP (Traffic).

It has also posted pictures of a number of criminals caught recently on charges of different types of crimes committed in the city.

Public can even send e-mail to the SSP (City) AP Tiwari directly at ssp_guwahati@assampolice.gov.in.
