International conference on wellbeing from Jan 18

 GUWAHATI, Jan 14 - A two-day international conference on ‘Wellbeing: Lifespan Perspectives & Practices for Sustainable Communities’ jointly organised by MIND India, Institute of Positive Mental Health & Research, Dr Yogi’s Senior Citizen Care Centre, Bahar Care Foundation and Periferry, working in the field of mental health, palliative care, geriatric rehabilitation and art and culture respectively, will be held at the Madhabdev International Auditorium of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on January 18 and 19.

“Wellbeing dwells on prevention rather than on treatment, on flourishing rather than on illness, and on strengths rather than on weaknesses. This approach enables individuals, communities and organisations to thrive, thereby enhancing quality of life. The conference would explore the different perspectives and practices of wellbeing to reach sustainability of communities across the life span and development of human beings,” a statement from the organisers said.

Delegates and speakers from the US, UK, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and different parts of India will participate in the conference. The delegates will be mainly practitioners in the field of health, mental health, academics, social entrepreneurs and researchers.

The conference will be attended by Prof K Srinath Reddy, president of Public Health Foundation of India, New Delhi as chief guest; Dr Hitesh Deka, Vice-Chancellor of KK Handiqui State Open University, as guest of honour; Dr HR Phookun, retired HoD, Department of Psychiatry, Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, as chief patron.

The keynote speech will be delivered by Dr BJ Prashantham, Professor of Counselling Psychology and Director, Christian Counselling Centre, Institute of Human Relations, Counselling & Psychotherapy, Vellore.

Panel discussions on various sub-themes will witness a host of eminent speakers like Dr Leon Tan, arts educator and wellness consultant, New Zealand; Dr Ajanta Goswami, child psychiatrist and Community Mental Health, US; Dr Anna Madill, HoD, Dept of Psychology, University of Leeds, UK; Dr Tonmoy Sharma, consultant psychiatrist, Sovhealth, US; Dr Sam Manickam, clinical psychologist, Thiruvananthapuram; Dr Rahul Shidhaye, psychiatrist, PHFI, Pune, among others.
