ONGC increases gas production in Tripura
Correspondent
AGARTALA, Jan 13 - Rubbishing the reports of shortage of natural gas, ONGC Asset Manager, Tripura Asset, GK Singha Roy on Saturday said the oil giant has already enhanced its production by 1 lakh standard cubic meter gas during the past one year.

Not only production, the target for drilling during the 2018-19 FY has also been achieved three months before the schedule time. “While a total 19 wells were targetted to explore during the current FY, the ONGC has fulfilled the target by December 31. Now, six more new wells will be explored in the remaining three months of current FY”, he said at Sonamura GCS in Sepahijala district.

Singha Roy’s statement is seen as a jibe at NEEPCO and OTPC’s wish for more gas to enhance their power generation capacity. He said ONGC would be able to collect gas from Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary by next one year as National Wildlife Board has already given the green signal for exploration of gas.

On the recent development of entrance of Vedanta Ltd in the State’s gas exploration sector, the Asset Manager said, “ONGC did not show much interest to get the contract. Yes, Vedanta has got exploration license for a small area at Kunjaban (279 sq km). It will make no difference in the ONGC’s presence in Tripura”, he said.
