GUWAHATI, Jan 12 - In a bid to accelerate women empowerment and acknowledge the good results of the first 1,000 girls who excelled in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certification Examinations- 2017, Chief Minister Sarbananada Sonowal launched the distribution of 1,000 scooties to the girl students at a function held at GMCH auditorium here today.
It may be noted that the scheme to give free scooties to girl students in recognition to their good results in the higher secondary examinations was one of the budget promises of the State government. Fulfilling the budget promise, the Chief Minister handed over allotment certificates along with the keys to the girl students in the city today in presence of Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Speaking on the occasion Sonowal said that ever since the new dispensation has been in power, quality has become the only criterion for getting government jobs and incentives. He added that his government has been striving hard to make quality the only criteria for selecting beneficiaries of government schemes.
Sonowal also said that the State government is committed to quality higher education, through which the much deserved qualitative changes will be brought about in the society. He also said that the government’s decision to introduce ‘Gunotsav’ in the education system was primarily done to bring in qualitative changes in education. He also requested the education department to include sapling plantation as an essential component of ‘Gunotsav’ to complement the State government’s efforts of adding life to bio-diversity in the State.
He also asked the recipients of scooties to use them (scooties) as a medium or launch pad to scale high in their career. Sonowal also advised the students to work hard and stay with positive people and avoid negative companies. He also said that he felt happy to have launched the scheme on a day synchronizing with the National Youth Day, the birth anniversary of Swami Vive-kananda today. Swami Vive-kanada, a youth icon, has tremendous influence on the youths and he called upon the young generation of the State to emulate the mission and vision of Swamiji for a robust country based on the tenets of humanism.
