AGARTALA, Jan 12 – The total electorate of poll-bound Tripura has swelled from 22, 77,415 to 23,52,505, according to the final photo electoral rolls published here on Saturday.
The increase in voters stands at 75,090 (3.30 per cent) after intensive revision of electoral rolls. A total of 46,259 names were deleted from the rolls in course of the revision of photo electoral rolls, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal at a press conference at the Civil Secretariat here.
The number of male voters stands at 11, 97,849 while female electorate is 11, 54,656, he said.
Though the final electoral rolls have been published, the State Election department has fixed January 17 as the last date for filing of claims and objections.
“Date for hearing on claims and objections will be announced later”, he said adding that the elections would be held on the basis of photo electoral rolls as the State had already achieved cent per cent photo electoral rolls.
However, voters could cast their votes by showing photo voter’s slips which will be distributed by the State Election machinery well before the election slated for February 14 next.
The notification for holding elections will be issued on January 21 and filing of nomination will start from the date of issuance of notification. The last date for making nomination will be January 28.
The scrutiny will be conducted on January 29 while last date for withdrawal of nominations will be January 31. Counting of polled EVMs will be done on February 28, two weeks after completion of polling. In the last Assembly election, the total number of electorate was 20.38 lakh and polling percentage was 91.31 per cent.
