BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 11 - An ex-servicemen’s rally was conducted at Lokra, Sonitpur district recently. The rally at such a scale was organised for the Assam Rifles’ ex-servicemen, widows, veer naris and the dependants. The mega event was presided over by Brig. Amitabh Roy, VRC, SM, Brigadier (Pers), Headquarters, Directorate General, Assam Rifles. The rally saw the mass participation of over 314 ex-servicemen including veer naris, widows and children from Biswanath and Sonitpur districts. Brigadier Roy addressed the rally and said that welfare of veterans and veer naris is a top priority area for Assam Rifles. He said that this rally was organised with an aim of reaching out to the Assam Rifles ex-servicemen fraternity, renewing bonds between serving and retired personnel, felicitating deserving gallantry awardees, veterans, veer naris, widows and addressing grievances pertaining to pension and other benefits. The Brigadier then felicitated gallantry awardees and veer naris, widows and veterans giving them a small token of appreciation.
An open session was held to address certain issues of common interest of all ex-servicemen and dependants. He also interacted with the veer naris, widows and dependants. The rally was a grand success and brought together the serving and the retired fraternity of Assam Rifles.
