IMPHAL, Jan 11 - The three-day Central Agricultural University (CAU)-Regional Agri Fair 2018-19 was inaugurated at the CAU campus near here on Friday.
The agri fair was held with the theme ‘Agripreneurship for attracting rural youth to agriculture’ under the sponsorship of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Coconut Board and National Horticulture Board.
Representatives from 13 constituent colleges of the CAU located across the seven Northeastern States, besides farmers are taking part in the agri-fair.
Manipur Speaker Yumnam Khemchand inaugurated the mega event in presence of the CAU Chancellor Dr S Ayyappan and Vice Chancellor Prof M Premjit Singh.
In his speech, Dr Ayyappan called upon the farmers to target at least a profit of Rs 1 lakh from agricultural land measuring one acre. Prof Premjit said that the institute is ranked 13th best agriculture varsity among the country’s 74.
Dr Badal Bhattacharya of Assam Agriculture University was awarded CAU award for excellence in agricultural research in NE for his unique ‘social engineering concept’ in management of white grub beetle in Majuli island.
