Library building donated

 GUWAHATI, Jan 11 – A library-cum-education centre building in memory of Uma Charan Bania was donated by his family to Karmashri Hiteswar Saikia College at Six Mile in the city. It was formally inaugurated on January 9 by Purnima Bania, widow of Uma Charan Bania in presence of a large gathering, a press release stated.

Addressing the gathering at a function organised on this occasion at the campus of the college, Radhika Mohan Bhagawati, eminent journalist and Editor of Dainik Asom highly appreciated the donor of the beautiful building which would benefit the students and the readers a great deal. He called upon the students to avail the benefits of the library for widening their knowledge base.

Earlier, Kumar Sanjay Krishna, son of Uma Charan Bania, who is Principal Secretary, Planning and Development Department, Government of Assam in his welcome address said that the library building has three rooms - reading room, computer room and conference hall. It took three years to complete the building involving a cost of about Rs 40 lakh. HN Das, ex-Chief Secretary, Assam said that the library would be a source of knowledge to the students and encourage to inculcate the habit of reading among the students and public.
