UDALGURI, Jan 10 - The 30th biennial conference of Assam State Electricity Workers’ Union (ASEWU) affiliated to the Electricity Employees Federation of India concluded here at Tangla town in Udalguri district recently.
The three-day conference began from January 5 last at Bordoloi Bhavan in Tangla town and it was attended by nearly 200 members of the union from every nook and corner of the State. The reception committee gave a rousing welcome to the delegates.
Speaking on the occasion, president of the workers union Dipak Kumar Saha appealed to the workers to be united . Highlighting the issues plaguing the electricity employees, he said that despite repeated pleas, the authorities concerned are yet to resolve their perennial demands.
The open session was inaugurated by retired Principal of Tangla College, senior journalist and advocate, Dr Keshab Chanda Dutta. Speaking on the ocassion, president of All Assam Nirman Shramik Union (AANSU) Udalguri chapter, Nurul Amin strongly criticized the government for its anti-workers’ policies. “The hopes and aspirations of the working class have been shattered as the saffron party has been adopting pro-corporate laws which are detrimental to the working class,” he added. He further stated that it is quite astonishing to note that the present government has ignored the ligitimate rights of the people.
The souvenir ‘Shakti Kantha’ was released by HoD of Assamese, Tangla College, Prof. Ghateswar Baruah. In the evening noted singer, Bipin Chawdang enthralled the gathering.
The last day of the session concluded with a delegate session where the union took various resolutions and demanded scrapping of Electricity Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2018, filling up vacant posts and regularizing the posts of master roll and contractual employees among others. A new committee of the workers’ union was also formed with Dipak Kumar Saha as president and Deep Kumar Chowdhury as general secretary respectively.
