NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Jan 10 - The Lakhimpur district unit of the All Assam Chutia Students’ Union (AACSU) staged a two-hour dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, North Lakhimpur, on Wednesday demanding scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and immediate and unconditional release of their arrested leaders.

AACSU general secretary Mahen Bora was arrested on January 8 at Golaghat while leading his organisation to enforce the 11-hour bandh called by NESO and AASU and supported by 30 other organisations. The AACSU’s Lakhimpur unit later handed over a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the district administration demanding release of the arrested leaders and fellow members as well as to scrap the Bill.
