GUWAHATI, Jan 10 - Noted microbiologist Dr JB Sarma, now a consultant microbiologist at the National Health Service, England, and a clinical lecturer at the New Castle University, has expressed his desire to help a cancer prevention and control project in Assam and the region as a whole under the Assam Cancer Society in association with the Government of Assam.
He has approached the implementing agency in the areas like evidence-based medicine and patients safety.
This project was taken up with the help from AIIMS, New Delhi, during the tenure of Dr RC Deka, retired Director of AIIMS.
The project on cancer prevention and control in Assam is being looked after by Dr BR Baishya, attached to the Government of Assam and the Assam Cancer Society.
“The project was started in the State in 2001 and it mainly focuses on preventive technologies and awareness. We need the help of different experts in the field for our awareness programmes. Detection of the problem in the early stages can go a long way in prolonging life. Thus, the awareness programmes should be implemented throughout the State simultaneously for better results,” said Dr Baishya.
