|Docu on historic Pothorughat uprising to be made|
MANGALDAI, Jan 9 - “If a super hit film on Mangal Pandey can be made, definitely a feature film on the historic peasants uprising of Pothorughat on January 28 of 1894 can be made by a director of repute like Jahnu Baruah. It will be best way to take this historic yet neglected chapter of our history to the national level and offer gratitude and honour to the 140 unsung krishak swahids, who made supreme sacrifices in the uprising,” said Additional Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna while taking part in an informal discussion with mediapersons of Mangaldai on Monday afternoon.
The Additional Chief Secretary holding the charge of Home, Information and Public Relations, Revenue and Disaster Management etc., on Monday visited the sar areas of the district and later held discussion with officials of the district administration, revenue and police departments in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. He was accompanied by Officer on Special Duty of Information and Public Relations Rajib Prakash Barua.
During his discussion with mediapersons, he also assured to make a documentary on Pothorughat and to arrange for celebration of the ‘Krishak Swahid Divas’ in the schools of the state on January 28 every year without affecting the classes so that the younger generation could realise the significance of supreme sacrifices made by the ‘krishak swahids’.
Talking about the initiative of the state government towards fulfilling the long-felt demands of the journalists of the state, the visiting Additional Chief Secretary apprised mediapersons on the measures taken up by the government. On being asked about the policy of the state government on making government land free from encroachment, he said that the government has been considering amendments to the existing land and revenue regulations on the basis of recommendations of the Brahma Committee. However, he tactfully avoided questions on the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and simply appealed to all sections of the society, particularly mediapersons to play a key role in maintaining the traditional peace and tranquillity of the state.
