ITANAGAR, Jan 9 - Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today dedicated the country’s longest 300-metre single-lane steel cable motorable suspension bridge over Siang river – also known as the Byorung Bridge in Upper Siang district – to the people of the State. He also laid the foundation stone of the District Secretariat building at Yingkiong, the headquarters of Upper Siang district.

Later, addressing a public function there, the Chief Minister said the newly opened bridge would benefit about 20,000 people residing on both sides of the river, and bolster defence preparedness.

The Byorung Bridge, built at the cost of Rs 48.43 crore and funded by the DoNER Ministry under the NLCPR, will reduce the distance from Yingkiong to Tuting by almost 40 km, whose earlier road length was 192 km.

Stating that good connectivity is the key to the State’s prosperity, the Chief Minister said that the Centre has sanctioned 268 road projects worth Rs 3,800 crore under the PMGSY. For Upper Siang, two PMGSY projects have been sanctioned and are awaiting tender by this month. The projects sanctioned are 35-km road from Paling to Zido for Rs 82.10 crore and 30-km road from Zido to Bishing worth Rs 42.46 crore.

Responding to public demand, the Chief Minister assured to provide funds for construction of a new circuit house and Rs 1.5 crore as the initial amount under Phase I with further assurance of more funding under Phase II. For anti-erosion works for Yingkiong and Tuting, he announced a sanction of Rs 10 crore.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, State BJP president Tapir Gao, Health Minister Alo Libang, and MLAs Pasang D Sona and Olom Panyang.
