SILCHAR, Jan 8 - Following instructions of the All India Congress Committee and also the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, members of Silchar District Congress Committee staged a protest demonstration against the Central Government’s demonetization of old high denomination notes.
Speakers during the protest blamed the Government for the sufferings and woes of the people across the country since November 8 last, when the decision was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Slamming the Prime Minister, Silchar MP Susmita Dev said, “the decision has been a boon to the capitalists, while the general people have been badly hit.”
Echoing the Parliamentarian, former MLA for Katigorah Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiyan criticized the policies adopted by the Government.
Meanwhile, even after almost two months of demonetisation, workers in the tea gardens of Barak Valley are yet to enjoy the fruits of the much-promised decision. Many tea gardens are yet to make necessary arrangements to open bank accounts for their workers, alleged Ajit Singh, general secretary of Barak Cha Sramik Union and a former Minister.
“When the situation has not yet developed for the urban centres to become cashless, how can we expect our brothers and sisters in the villages to get used to the hyped phenomenon,” Singh quipped.
