AGARTALA, Jan 8 - Tripura Government has decided to undertake Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccination drive against the deadly disease, official sources said.
The drive would be carried out from January 9 to 22 in four districts – Unakoti, Gomati, Dhalai and South district, said member secretary of Health and Family Welfare Society Dr Sujit Chakma here today.
Altogether 5.11 lakh children aged between one to 15 years would be vaccinated in four vulnerable districts during the period, he said adding that schools, PHCs, CHCs and Anganwadi Centres have been designated to vaccinate the targeted group.
In the second phase, all the children of four districts aged between 9 to 12 months would be given JE vaccines as per the planned envisaged by the department.
Dr Madhusudan Chowdhury, State vaccination programme officer said JE was confined to rural areas but of late it is spreading in urban areas too.
In 2015, altogether 28 JE cases were reported in the State while four persons died of the deadly disease. As many as 14 JE cases were reported in 2014 while 28 JE cases were detected last year.
