GUWAHATI, Jan 8 - In a day of dramatic deliberations, the Asam Sahitya Sabha management finally accepted the resignation tendered by its controversial general secretary Dr Paramananda Rajbangshi.
The executive meeting and the representative body meeting that followed initially refused to accept Dr Rajbangshi’s resignation. However, following Dr Rajbangshi’s insistence that he was not in a position to carry on with the Sabha’s responsibilities and that he was being made a scapegoat for merely implementing the Sabha’s decisions, the house comprising the executive and the representative bodies relented and accepted his resignation.
The house, however, asserted that it was accepting the resignation in acknowledgement and respect for public opinion and had nothing to do with the criticism of the general secretary by a few former Sabha presidents.
The house also criticised the former Sahitya Sabha presidents, saying that they chose to target the general secretary rather than coming up with constructive suggestions during its hour of crisis.
The house also decided to hold the next session of the Sahitya Sabha at Burhidihing in Tinsukia district from February 1 to 5, 2018.
