Main accused of Habial firing case arrested
 DERGAON, Jan 7 - The main accused of the firing incident on January 2 night at Habial gaon of Khumtai in Golaghat district was arrested by Golaghat Police last night.

Rohini Gogoi, who was picked up on January 3 by police was finally arrested as the bullet fired on the vehicle was ascertained to have been shot from the pistol of Rohini by the State Forensic Laboratory (SFL) Guwahati.

SP Pushpraj Singh told this correspondent that the bullet fired on the vehicle was proved to have been fired from Rohini’s seized pistol and so he had been arrested.

“We are now interrogating him and more and more inputs are expected in the coming days,”, the SP said. “The vehicle used in the firing has also been seized,”, he added.

He also said that the investigation was going on smoothly as per law and no culprit will be allowed to escape.

Residents here claimed that Rohini was closely associated with Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia. So, they have demanded the immediate arrest of the MLA for the alleged attack on CAA protesters.

Monower Hussain, the assistant general secretary of AASU has demanded the immediate arrest of Mrinal Saikia.

“All the residents here know very well that Rohini has good relations with the MLA,” Binoy Barua whose Maruti van was fired upon said.

“I saw three persons in front of my residence at the time of the incident. One has been arrested but the other two are yet to be arrested”, Pranjal Rajkhowa at whose residence Binoy Barua’s Maruti van was parked, said. “I request Golaghat Police to keep its name by arresting the other two as soon as possible,” Rajkhowa said.
