Batting let down for Assam against Baroda
Staff correspondent
SILCHAR, Jan 7 - A poor performance with the bat saw hosts Assam set only a target of 116 runs for Baroda to chase in the Col. CK Nayudu Under-23 Trophy.

In reply, Baroda were 93 for no loss at stumps on Day 3 needing another 23 runs to win the match and bag crucial points.

It was yet another batting collapse for Assam at the SM Dev Stadium as the whole team was bundled out for 136 runs in 65.4 overs in their second innings. Barring Subham Mandal (28) and Danish Ahmed (37), and some late flourish by tailender Rahul Singh (16) there was not much to speak about the batters. H Punde was brilliant with the ball as he picked up six wickets in the innings.

Baroda openers JK Singh (45 n.o.) and AB More (41 n.o.) played some good cricket at the day’s fag end to take the side closer to the target while there was not much to cheer for the Assam bowlers.

Brief scores: Assam 1st Innings: 151. Baroda 1st Innings: 172. Assam 2nd Innings: 136 in 65.4 overs (Danish Ahmed 37, Subham Mandal 28; H Punde 6/18). Baroda 2nd Innings 93-0 (JK Singh 45 n.o., AB More 41 n.o).
