Satradhikar Pitambar Deva Goswami opposes Citizenship Bill
A CORRESPONDENT
NAGAON, Jan 7 - Taking a belligerent stand on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016, the Satradhikar of Auniati Satra Pitambar Deva Goswami of river island district Majuli on Sunday clarified his stand on the controversial Bill by saying that the Bill will never be accepted.

Goswami, while participating in a public meeting held at Borkola in Nagaon on Sunday, said, “I oppose the Bill and will continue to oppose it. The Bill stands completely opposite to what the government promised us for safeguarding Jati, Mati and Bheti.”

He further said, “I cannot do or support anything that is detrimental to the people and the State. Foreigners are foreigners. We cannot differentiate them on the basis of race and religion. Assam is already burdened with foreigners and we cannot allow the Bill to destroy the Assamese identity,” he said.

Goswami further called upon all the people of the State to lodge protest against the Bill. The Satradhikar’s stand on the Bill came at a time when protest against the Bill is gaining momentum across the State.
