NALBARI, Jan 6 - Activists of the Nalbari district unit AASU today staged a 10-hour mass hunger strike in front of the Nalbari Natya Mandir from 6 am to 4 pm to protest the Citizenship (Amendment )Act-2019.

The mass protest was attended by the members of various organisations of the district. The protesters displayed placards depicting various slogans against the Act. The hunger strike was broken by renowned litterateur, Sahityacharya Dr Basanta Kumar Bhattacharya by providing juice to the protesters.

Speaking at the protest site, Dr Bhattacharya said that the Government machinery could not dominate the anti-CAA movement in the State and the people spontaneously came out against the Government’s moves. He strongly criticised Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his silence on issues related to the future of the Assamese nationality. The protest meeting held at the site was addressed among others by AASU leaders Himan Barman, Bhabajit Bezbaruah, Akshay Deka and Gunajit Pathak. They also protested the police atrocities on innocent protesters in Nalbari district recently.
