Manipur Press Club celebrates foundation day

 IMPHAL, Jan 6 - Manipur Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar on Sunday said that the media has a great role to play in promoting good governance in the State.

The Minister said this at the celebration of the 44th Foundation Day of Manipur Press Club held under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) at its complex here today.

Shyamkumar suggested that all the journalists in the State must follow the basic principles of journalism which is to adopt balanced reporting rather than reporting a one-sided story.

IPR director Heisnam Balkrisna Singh informed that the uncovered senior media persons will be brought under the Manipur State Journalists Pension Scheme. A proposal to increase the pension amount of Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 will be introduced in the Cabinet soon, he added.
