GUWAHATI, Jan 6 - Hosts NorthEast United FC upset FC Goa 2-1 in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here today.
Sitting ninth in the 10-team ISL, NEUFC will definitely get a boost from this win as they beat Goa who are at the fifth place in the table.
Brazilian Marcio de Souza Gregorio put the hosts ahead in the 21st minute but Goa’s Manuel Arana drew parity after seven minutes.
After the break Manipuri striker Seminien Doungel hit the back of the net to give NEUFC advantage in the 52nd minute.
The visitors had a distinct domination throughout the course with superior ball possession. They enjoyed 66 percent of ball possession but due to poor finishing the Goan team failed to stay in the game. Their frontliners were also not accurate in shooting at goal.
With this victory NEUFC has collected seven points from eight outings.
