Education bid for children of closed paper mill
Staff Correspondent
SILCHAR, Jan 5 - At a time when children of the employees of the closed Cachar Paper Mill, a unit of Hindustan Paper Corporation have been hitting the streets seeking financial help from people to run their studies, members of Ideal Society Trust at Katigorah in Cachar district have stepped up to shoulder the responsibilities of giving education to the children.

Talking to reporters on Sunday, Shamim Ahmed Laskar, principal of Ideal Public School, a part of the Trust informed that those children of the families of the mill employees who are unable to continue studies due to their economic condition shall be given education at the institute. “We have decided to enroll children of the Mill employees from nursery to class XII and they need not to pay any money for that,” Ahmed maintained.

Meanwhile, Manabendra Chakraborty, the chief convener of the Mill Revival Action Committee informed The Assam Tribune that the society has extended them an offer to arrange for the studies of the children of their families and said that he would consult the matter with other colleagues. “It is a good gesture that the society has come forward with. I shall discuss the matter with others. But this would not be a solution to our plight. Many of our colleagues have died and many are ailing and don’t have the money to bear the expenses. We need our legitimate salaries remitted at the earliest,” Chakraborty said.
