SIVASAGAR, Jan 5 - In a humane gesture, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr MS Lakshmi Priya on Thursday extended a helping hand to a visually-challenged minor girl.

It may be mentioned that Akhtara Rahman (10), daughter of Abdul Rahman of Kalugaon called on the Deputy Commissioner along with her father and returned home with a smile on her face.

The girl, who is also facing hearing problem, was assured of all possible support by the Deputy Commissioner and ensured that she would be provided every assistance entitled under the Ayushman Bharat and Atal Amrit Abhiyan.

After knowing from her father that she had a penchant for drawing, the Deputy Commissioner asked her to draw pictures of the wooden models of Rang Ghar and Shiva Doul. Overwhelmed by the drawings of the minor girl, the Deputy Commissioner summoned noted artist Sujit Barua and entrusted him the responsibility of mentoring her, besides providing free entry to the District Library.
