Tura poet Biswajit Nandi receives Indo-Dubai Friendship Intíl Award

 TURA, Jan 5 - Noted Bengali poet Biswajit Nandi of Tura has received the prestigious Indo-Dubai Friendship International Award for 2019.

He was awarded in recognition for his work on the fields of poetry and social activities.

Nandi has penned scores of poems on different subjects and also written six books on the lives of eminent personalities. He is associated with many literary circles of the country.

He was given the award at a function held recently at Al Koohory Banquet Hotel in Dubai under the aegis of Samata Sahitya Sabha.

The event saw the presence of dignitaries of many countries. Ranjan Piyasiri Dantanarayana, co-coordinator of the DK International Research Foundation, Sri Lanka, was the chief guest of the function.

Nandi has written poems on the lives of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee, former Speaker of the Lok Sabha PA Sangma, the first Chief Minister of Meghalaya Capt WA Sangma, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee and the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, among others.

ďI have always been attracted to the supreme qualities of these personalities and it reflects in my writing. It also reflects the togetherness of mankind. The language of poetry has no bar and literature can be instrumental in bringing harmony among languages,Ē Nandi said.

For his contribution to Bengali literature, Nandi was earlier conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award by the West Garo Hills district administration on the 45th Meghalaya Day in 2017. A poet of international repute, Nandi has received many national and international awards in the past. His works have been translated into many languages, including Garo, Assamese, Hindi, English and Nepali.
