Cong, PAPA trade charges of rigging

 DIPHU, Jan 5 – Congress and PAPA today have levelled allegations against each other of indulging in rigging, booth capturing, using goons to scare genuine electors. Both the Congress and PAPA have been complaining after the end of polling that the district administration acted passively.

In a press conference held at Congress office here, Sum Ronghang, District Congress President, alleged that supports of PAPA in league with some local antisocial elements, scared large number of party workers at various polling stations of Langpherer MAC constituency.

Ronghang addressing the press conference said that “we registered written FIR in Bakaliaghat Police station, to take action against four criminals seven days ahead of poll day, but police did not do anything and this particular gang attacked the residence of one local party leader and destroyed a vehicle, assaulted several Congress workers before and during poll”.

The Congress president further alleged that when rigging and booth capturing were taking place, election observers and police officials were indifferent.

On the other, in another press conference of Deputy Commissioner, Karbi Anglong, Rakesh Kumar, who also addressed stated, “Till now no Zonal Magistrate or any Observer, has received any written complaint, seeking re-poll any individual or party in the entire district, but I will initiate official process as soon as I receive any such objection”. When he was informed about the allegation made by Sum Ronghang, the Deputy Commissioner said, “I will call for report from Bakalia Police in this respect”.
