Protest against proposed court complex

GUWAHATI, Jan 4 – The residents of Kushal Konwar Path (Nabgraha Path), Chenikuthi Hillside, MC Road, KK Bhatta Road and Happyvilla organised a public meeting on January 3 to protest against the State government’s move to convert the existing Veterinary Complex at Barowari into a court complex to house around 30 courts of Kamrup (Metro) district. The meeting was presided over by Dr Anuradha Dutta, president, Nabagraha Path, Chenikuthi Hill-side Nagarik Samiti. Pradip Kakati, social worker spoke in detail about the State government’s move.

Prominent residents of the localities spoke and highlighted the various problems and issues faced by the residents of the areas like traffic congestion, safety factor of the students of various schools situated on MC Road and the residents. They called for conversion of veterinary complex into a children/elder citizens’ park which would serve as an open space in case any disaster strikes, particularly an earthquake, because the densely populated residential areas lack open space/children park which is most essential for disaster management, loss of ecological environment etc.

After a threadbare discussion it was decided to submit a memorandum to the State Government with a copy to the Prime Minister and the Union Law Minister and Union Environment Minister to reconsider the decision of the State Government to convert the existing veterinary complex into a court complex and consider constructing a children/senior citizen’s park in the interest of the local residents. This was stated in a press release.
