GUWAHATI, Jan 3 - Riyan Parag hit his maiden Ranji Trophy ton as Assam on the opening day of the four-day Group C match scored 237 for the loss of five wickets against Uttarakhand.
Electing to bat first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Dehradun today, Assam had to face initial hiccups losing three wickets for 47. But skipper Gokul Sharma and Riyan Parag stitched a 98-run partnership for the fourth wicket which consolidated Assam’s position. Later an unbeaten 85-run partnership between Riyan and glovesman Kunal Saikia helped the visiting team in crossing the 200 mark.
At the end of the day, Riyan remained unbeaten on 104 while Kunal is batting on 34.
Today Riyan faced 219 balls and hit 10 boundaries. He also hit two sixes. Young Riyan is the lone Assam batsman this season who has been showing consistency in batting. He has already scored two 50s (against Services and Jharkhand).
