Uphold Siu-Ka-Pha’s values: Sonowal

 SONARI, Jan 3 - Addressing a public meeting held at Charaideo Maidam Kshetra during the ongoing Charaideo Mahotsav here today, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal exhorted the people to uphold the values championed by the first Ahom monarch, Siu-Ka-Pha. “By following Siu-Ka-Pha’s ideals, we can establish our supremacy in south-east Asia,” the Chief Minister added.

 Meanwhile, Sonowal laid the foundation stone of various tourism development schemes, to be implemented at a cost of Rs 36 crore in undivided Sivasagar district. The foundation stone of the boundary walls of Charaideo Maidam was also laid by the Chief Minister.

Sonowal urged the people to be vigilant and appealed for proper utilisation of government funds.

Referring to the ongoing Swadesh Darshan programme under the Union Ministry of Tourism, the Chief Minister said all the 33 districts of Assam would be covered under it to put the State on the world tourism map.

Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Jorhat MP, Pradan Baruah, Lakhimpur MP, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Chairman, Assam Tourism Development Corporation, and MLAs Tapan Kumar Gogoi, Jogen Mohan and Kushal Duwari also addressed the meeting. Ramesh Jain, Commissioner, Assam Tourism, and Narayan Konwar, Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar were also present in the meeting. Vivekananda Phukon, Deputy Commissioner, Charaideo, delivered the welcome address.
