GUWAHATI, Jan 3 - The Central government has approved a tableau from the State which will depict the mask craft of Assam for this year’s Republic Day parade to be held at the national capital.
State Cultural Affairs Deputy Director Hiranya Bhuyan told The Assam Tribune that the State-level committee headed by the Cultural Affairs Minister has also selected the design.
“Three designs had made bids. The one from a firm ‘Image Creations’ has been selected and work has already begun,” Bhuyan said. The firm is learnt to have completed making the super structure in Delhi.
“There will also be live elements in the tableau, besides depiction of the Samaguri Sattra of Majuli which is famous for mask art. A 10-member team led by artiste Hemchandra Goswami will also perform a mukha bhaona – Sita Horon-Bali Bodh,” the official said.
The firm which is making the tableau had also made the award-winning tableau that was based on music maestro Bhupen Hazarika.
Last year, the tableau from the State was based on the revered shrine Kamakhya.
The Central government is learnt to have approved tableaus from around 14 states for this year’s Republic Day parade.
