3-day tourism festival Rongali from Jan 19

 GUWAHATI, Jan 3 - The fourth edition of tourism festival Rongali will be held from January 19 to 21 to at the Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here.

The Rongali Art Carnival ‘Swabhiman’ will present some of the most talented young artistes of the region creating a canvass of art including doodle art, string art, hyper realism, graffiti etc. The art will celebrate the icons of Assam Sukaphaa, Chilarai, Lachit Borphukon, Bhupen Hazarika and others.

‘Bor Axom’ will showcase the lives and cultures of tribes and communities of Assam. Ankia bhaona, mukha bhaona, choreography competition, national level rock band competition, colourful dance forms of the region, large craft exhibition etc., too have been lined up. Assamese food will be main focus of ‘Bor Axom’. Around 25 stalls will display various Assamese delicacies. Social organisation Priyobandhu will organise a traditional food competition.

Around 20 designers comprising the best of the region will showcase the spectacular designs with 30 talented models of the region. Another attraction will be group dance competition to be curated by Pankaj Ingti. It will depict historical events of Assam.

A traditional boat race will be organised in the Dighalipukhuri on January 19. Around 20 teams will compete. Traditional Nao Khelgeet will be an added attraction.

Some of the finest bands of the country will play with top names of Assam. Arun Das will perform on the first day of the show. Neel Akash, Kussum Kailash, Simanta Sekhar, Anaya Brahma, Nilotpal Bora, Zublee Baruah too will perform.

Rongali Good Vibe will bring together many young talented Assamese musicians. Zubeen Garg, Papon, Raghu Dixit Project and India’s most sought-after DJ Nucleya are also on the agenda. Rongali will also bring some of the most famous rock bands of India such as The Local Train, As We Keep Searching and many more.

Shyamkanu Mahanta, chief organiser of Rongali said entrepreneurship is the main focus of Rongali. “On January 20 at 11 a.m. we are organising Rongali Advantage Assam Entrepreneurship Conclave. It will be attended by some of the most talented Assamese in the fields of entrepreneurship, corporate sector, sports, music, etc. They will interact with young Assamese aspiring entrepreneurs, media and young minds,” he said.

NEDFi, SBI and venture capitalists will talk about financing and projects. Many top national tour operators, travel writers, national media personalities are coming to cover Rongali.

David Koch, curator of Rongali Rock Festival said around 50 top young rock bands of the country will compete. Tridib Sharma, advisor and key functionary said over the last few years Rongali has attracted national media attention to the tribal culture of Assam and this year the scale will be much bigger.
