Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, Jan 3 - The Kamrup (Metro) district administration today said that people in the city and nearby areas whose names have not made it to the list of the first NRC draft should not worry and work on the update of the register is progressing well.“Applicants who do not find their names in the part publication of draft NRC should not have any fears and apprehension as their verification is under progress, which will be completed soon. Verification of each individual is being done meticulously in a fair and objective manner to ensure that names of all genuine Indian citizens as per cut-off date of March 24 midnight, 1971, are included in the NRC,” Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu said at a press conference.

He added, “For public to register any complaint there is a control room set up in the Kamrup (Metro) DC office which is functional from 8 am to 9 pm on all working days. The contact number for the control room is 1070. Public can also lodge complaints or feedback in the website http://nrcassamcomplaints.in. We had constituted 281 District Magistrate Investigation Teams in Kamrup (Metro) district to carry out house-to-house verification for those whose documents had some discrepancies or non-receipt of document verification result from the issuing authority.”
The DC said that around 3,000 staff are engaged in the NRC update process in Kamrup (Metro) at various levels.
He said that non-completion of office verification of documents submitted by applicants and non-completion of house-to-house verification are among the reasons for some people’s names not appearing in the draft.
“Some applicants submitted gaon panchayat certificates as linkage document for which verification will be taken up as per the court’s order in subsequent phase,” said Dr Angamuthu. He said the part draft NRC is being displayed at 78 NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) of the district.
“As of now, the display process is going on very systematically and peacefully. Elaborate arrangements have been done for the process and it will continue for the whole month of January. Public can search their names by visiting the NSK concerned from 10 am to 4 pm on working days,” said the DC.
