BAIHATA CHARIALI, Jan 2 - Though the situation in the State is not smooth following the anti-CAA agitation, yet thousands of visitors thronged the historic Madan Kamdev temple on January 1 to celebrate the New Year.
From early morning a long queue of devotees, mostly youths and children, was witnessed at the main temple. The youths danced, sang and shouted with joy to celebrate the New Year. Besides this, nagara naam and ayoti naam were also performed by various parties.
The secretary of the temple management committee informed that they had already engaged their volunteers for the convenience of the devotees and picnickers. Moreover, local police force and paramilitary forces were deployed to monitor and control the traffic and other situations that might disturb peace and discipline.
The people of the locality also extended their co-operation to the management committee to make the New Year celebration peaceful at the temple.
They, however, said that this year the number of visitors were less than last year and no foreign tourist was seen this time.
Sanjay Baruah, Manoj Baruah, Hitesh Kalita and their colleagues, who visited the temple, said that as the place is located amidst the scenic beauty of Dewangiri hill and Madankuri river, State Tourism department should take steps to develop it so that it becomes a place of tourist attraction.
