Police SI held for attempting to murder colleague

 JORHAT, Jan 2 - Police in Majuli island have arrested probationary Sub-Inspector Moon Basumatary on charges of attempting to murder his colleague, another probationary Sub-Inspector Joydeep Nath, by shooting at him on Tuesday night.

 When contacted, Deputy Inspector of Police (Eastern Range) GV Siva Prasad in Jorhat told The Assam Tribune that as per information, Basumatary, who was posted at Jengraimukh Police Station in Majuli, has been taken into custody on charges of attempting to murder (Section 307 IPC) after he reportedly fired from his service pistol at Nath following an altercation over some matter.

Nath, who was hit on his head, was on Tuesday night shifted to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment. His condition is stated to be serious.

Prasad said the incident took place in Basumatary’s room at the Jengraimukh PS.
