Correspondent
NALBARI, Jan 2 - Members of the Nalbari district unit of AASU on Wednesday burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in protest against the attack on AASU protesters during a demonstration near Solmara in Nalbari district.

The AASU protesters burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister in front of the Nalbari Police Station, after taking out a procession from the Nalbari Swahid Bhawan.

They also shouted slogans against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and alleged police brutality. The protesters demanded strict action against the guilty police personnel who resorted to lathi-charge after the convoy of Chief Minister Sonowal had gone by.

The AASU’s central organising secretary Himan Barman, central executive member Bhabajit Bezbaruah, district AASU president Gunajit Pathak and secretary Akshay Deka took part in the protest.

Meanwhile, rich tributes were paid at the Swahid Bhawan premises on Wednesday evening to those killed in police firing during the protests against the CAA. The Nalbari unit of the AASU lit earthen lamps to pay respect to those killed in police firing. AASU leaders and common people paid tributes by lighting earthen lamps in front of the portraits of the deceased.
