Staff Correspondent SILCHAR, Jan 2 - Around 20 people belonging to various organisations were arrested by police after they assembled at the Khudiram Bose point to demonstrate protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 on Thursday.

They were released later in the evening.
The protesters belonging to organisations like Chorus, Forum for Social Harmony, Assam Majuri Sramik Union and Chhatra Yuba Samiti gathered at the venue with placards carrying messages “we oppose the CAA”, “we don’t want new NRC or even National Population Register.”
After some of the leaders had delivered speeches, a Magistrate had asked them not to continue the event and soon the cadres were taken away from the spot by a bus. “No force can stop our voices.
The Government is hell-bent to snatch the rights of the common people. It is working in the interest of capitalist class,” the protesters alleged.
