MANGALDAI, Jan 2 - Assam Police Radio Organisation (APRO) moved into the next round of the 40th Amba Medhi Prize-money Invitational Football Tournament winning the opening match against New Model Sports Club, Udalguri.

At the newly developed Mangaldai Vidyapith playground here today, APRO defeated the Udalguri outfit 5-4 in penalty shootout after playing goalless draw in the regulation time.

The tournament began amidst uncertainty following non availability of a proper ground in Mangaldai. The Mangaldai Stadium, under the custody of Mangaldai Sports Association, reportedly has been handed over to BCCI for hosting its tournament.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by veteran sports organiser Dr Amarendra Narayan Deb in presence of prominent citizens including Mangaldai MLA Gurujyoti Das, trophy donor Biren Medhi, sports organisers Pratap Bordoloi, football secretary Bipul Kr Sharma, his deputy Uttam Boro among others.

On Friday Assam Police Blues will take on Mangaldai Town Club.
