NE India Tennis gets under way at Golaghat
 DERGAON, Jan 2 – The 17th edition of North-east India Open Tennis Championship, organised by Golaghat Tennis Club, got underway at Golaghat Tennis Club Pavilion here today. The competition, recognised by All Assam Tennis Association (AATA) as a ranking meet, was inaugurated by Upper Assam Commissioner Iftikhar Hussain.

In the inaugural function, the welcome address was delivered by Golaghat Dc as well as the chairman of the organising committee Sanjib Gohain Baruah where sports organiser M Ali Ahmed and ex-player Viveka Chaliha along with a host of sportspersons were present.

The oath was read by player Pratyush Poddar. More than 150 players in boy’s single U-12,14 and 18, girl’s U-14 and 18 and men’s single from all over the north-eastern States are taking part in the event. The championship will conclude on Janaury 6.
