GUWAHATI, Feb 27 – Assam, last year’s runners up in the all India Vijay Hazare Trophy, made a flying start this season with a thumping nine-wicket victory against Tripura at Ranchi today.
Tripura were all out for a paltry 166 in 46.4 overs in the 50-over match. Assam skipper Abu Nechim Ahmed was the wrecker in chief with a four-wicket haul while Arup Das took two. Syed Mohammad and Gokul Sharma were the other successful bowlers with one wicket each.
For Tripura wicketkeeper YV Takawale was the leading scorer with 78-ball 49. UU Bose was the other notable contributor with 36.
Assam batsmen did not have to face any trouble while chasing the small target as they reached the target in 29.3 overs losing opener Parvez Aziz (54). Rishab Das and Sib Sankar Roy remained unbeaten on 63 and 22 respectively.
