Illicit liquor destroyed in Darrang district

 MANGALDAI, Feb 24 - The news published in The Assam Tribune has had a positive impact on the operation carried out by the Darrang Police in the aftermath of the Golaghat and Jorhat incidents. After the publication of the news item in today’s issue of The Assam Tribune regarding prevalence of the illegal practice of illicit distilled liquor in several areas under Dalgaon police station of the district, the Superintendent of Police, Amrit Kr Bhuyan reportedly issued strict instructions to the Officer in Charge of Dalgaon Police Station to act on the newspaper report.

Accordingly, the Dalgaon Police carried out a drive in Koupati bazar area and managed to destroy nearly 300 litres of illicit liquor. In another massive drive on Sunday, police from Kharupetia police station led by its Officer in Charge Chandan Goswami destroyed more than 1200 litres of illicit liquor which had reportedly been transported to the area for sale just a few hours before the operation.
