Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, Feb 20 - The Dr Bhabendra Nath Saikia Memorial Award, instituted in the memory of the outstanding writer and film director, was today conferred on promising poetess Monika Das by State Chief Secretary Sanjay Krishna, litterateur Lakshmi Nandan Bora and writer Dr Anjan Jyoti Choudhury at a function held at Rabindra Bhawan here today.

The award ceremony was a part of the Dr Bhabendra Nath Saikia Memorial Theatre Festival – a three-day event that started today.
The event has been organised by Aarohan – a centre dedicated to all-round development of children, along with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Assam.
Monika Das expressed her gratitude towards the organisers for selecting her for an award in the name of the legendary author.
The award carries Rs 25,000 in cash, a citation, memento and a collection of books.
Earlier, on the occasion of the 88th birth anniversary of Dr Saikia, his life-size statue was unveiled in the Aarohan campus at Basisthapur, Beltola here by Kumar Sanjay Krishna.
Dr Lakshmi Nandan Bora was the distinguished guest of the occasion.
The statue has been sculpted by Nuruddin Ahmed. A naam-prasanga was also organised on the Aarohan premises on the occasion.
