GUWAHATI, Feb 20 - Shishu Sarothi organised its ‘Inclusive Annual Sports Meet’ in association with Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiative and RAISE-North East on February 18 and 20.
The event saw the participation of over 90 children from the centre and children from four Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Schools – Rupnagar ME School, Rupnagar Birubari (Gayaram) School, Natun Fatasil High School and 1, Hengrabari LP School as part of the RAISE-North East Project.
RAISE-North East is a project to compliment the Inclusive Education Component of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and is supported by three INGOs, i.e., Light for the World, CBM and Jan Vikas Samiti.
The sports meet had several interesting activities ranging from Bocce, Musical Chair with Universal Design, 9 Pins, Assisted Walking, Wheelchair Race, Running Race, Breaking the Pot and Cricket.
The highlight of the meet was the coming together of both children with and without disability, having a competitive spirit as well as creating an exciting and fun-filled environment for all.
“All the activities were designed in such a way that even children with high support needs could participate to the best of their abilities. Teachers and parents participated in a game of musical chairs to show their enthusiasm for the meet. The core objective of this event was to use the medium of sports to truly bring forth inclusiveness among children with and without disability,” a Shishu Sarothi spokesperson said.
This was followed by the closing ceremony presided over by former director and founding member of Shishu Sarothi, Mira Kagti, and other dignitaries where prizes were distributed.
