Correspondent
GOALPARA, Feb 16 - Works at the field and office level have been going on as per schedule for the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISHAN) which will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24.

Talking to this correspondent, Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka said that she is satisfied with the progress of the work as all important aspects of the schemes have been reviewed with regard to registration and preparation of the list of beneficiaries, activation of their accounts, collection and uploading of beneficiaries data etc. She also said that beneficiary farmers will get direct cash support of Rs 6,000 payable in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each and the scheme is viewed as augmenting the income of the small and marginal farmers having land up to 15 bighas. Deka also informed that around 90,000 farmers in the district are expected to register under the scheme. They will receive the money from the government through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Meanwhile, the District Agriculture Officer Prasantajit Bora said that due to shortage of technical staff they are facing a major problem with regard to uploading of beneficiaries’ data which is quite huge.

Deka also told this correspondent that a total of 14,580 beneficiaries ( i.e., 180 nos x 81 GPs) have been identified so far under the Mukhya Mantrir Krishi Sa Sajuli Yojana which was formally launched by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on February 13 in the district. She informed that under the scheme, Rs 5000 will be given as financial assistance by the Assam government to each beneficiary farmer through DBT for promoting farm mechanisation.

Meanwhile, a section of conscious citizens of the town have praised the efforts of the government for trying to uplift the economic condition of the poor farmers.
