SILAPATHAR, Feb 16 – Curtains came down on the four-day long Mising Youth Festival with a tribute to Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika at Gogamukh on February 12.
In the morning, the colourful cultural procession was taken out through the Gogamukh town, when several cultural troupes like Bihu Kristi Dal, Gayan Bayan, Deori Kristi Dal, Bodo Kristi Dal, Tea tribes, Mising Kristi Dal etc took part.
On the four-day, thousands of visitors thronged the handloom fair, book fair, food festival fair etc. Several visitors also bought the traditional dress items of Misings like Mibu Galug, Gonro ugon, Age gasar etc. In the four-day long programme, Mising folk dance competition, traditional sports completion, musical instrument competition, painting competition, etc were held among the Mising youths along with seminar on ‘Life and work of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’, and seminar on ‘preservation and development of Mising art & culture’, Poets meet etc.
The open session began with chorus song “Taniye Tanike Legape, translated song of Manuhe Manuhor Babe of Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
The open session was inaugurated by the president of Mising Bane Kebang, Pramananda Chayengia, while the open session was presided over by Dr Ranuj Pegu, president of the organising committee, Mising Youth Festival. Inaugurating the open session, Chayengia appealed to all the organisations of Assam for youth festival of Assam to preserve the folk cultural, tradition of indigenous communities. He also appealed to the Mising community for keeping own identity, folk culture and tradition.
Attending as chief guest, Samar Hazarika delivered lecture in the open session for a united Assam with identity of communities of Assam. The meeting was also attended by Manoj Barua, president of AJYCP, Promod Boro, president of ABSU, Pranjal Rajkonwar, president of ATASU, Pranjal Rajkonikar, president of AACSU, Arunjyoti Moran of Moran Students’ Union, Nikeswar Saikia of Motok Yuba Chatra Parishad, Roton Kachari of Sonowal Kachari Students’ Union, Bhuban Pegu, ex-MLA of Jonai LAC, Loknath Goswami of Sadou Asom Janasanskritik Parishad along with leaders of TMPK, TMMK, Mising Agom Kebang, Mising Dirbi Kebang, Mising Mimag Kebang etc.
