DIBRUGARH, Feb 15 - Preparations are afoot for the grand Episcopal Ordination (consecration) of Fr (Dr) Albert Hemrom as the coadjutor bishop of the Dibrugarh diocese. The Vatican had announced the appointment of Fr Hemrom as the coadjutor bishop for the Dibrugarh diocese on December 2 last year.
The ordination service which will be conducted on the campus of the Bishop’s House here is scheduled at 9:30 am on February 24 and the ceremony is expected to be attended by about 40,000 people.
Archbishop Emeritus Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati will be the chief ordaining prelate on the occasion. He will be joined by 24 other bishops, including archbishops from different parts of the country.
Concelebrants at the holy service will also include about 500 priests, including the religious clergy, classmates of the bishop-designate and other invited and visiting priests. A representative from the Vatican will also attend the ordination ceremony.
The consecration ceremony will be followed by a public felicitation of the newly ordained coadjutor bishop. Local religious heads from different faiths, church leaders of different Christian denominations, civic representatives, prominent citizens of the town and leaders from various political and non-political organisations are expected to attend the felicitation function.
Arrangements for parking have been made at the Don Bosco Higher Secondary School playground (Boiragimoth), Old Government Boy’s School playground (Jhalukpara), Dibrugarh Kadamoni Bus Terminal (Convoy Road intersection), St Joseph’s Seminary (Lichubari, near railway workshop), backyard of DHSK College and on the campus of St Mary’s Higher Secondary School (only for VIPs) and few other places.
