TIHU, Feb 15 - Hectic preparations are on for the three-day Pothar Naatmela, 2019, to be held under the aegis of Surag, an amateur leading cultural organisation of Kaithalkuchi, at the Sukracharjya Rabha Kshetra on February 22, 23 and 24.
On the first day, Manoj Barman, Block Development Officer of Madhupur, will inaugurate the Kamini Mohan Mishra Memorial Sabhagriha, while Dr Amar Kumar Nayak, professor of Nalbari College, will light the ceremonial lamp.
A souvenir release function, to be chaired by journalist Gautam Sarma, will be attended by eminent writer Jayanta Kumar Chakraborty and Vice Principal of Tangla College Dr Anjali Chakraborty as appointed guests. Dr Dipak Kumar Goswami, principal of Nalbari College, and Dr Krishna Chandra Gaur, principal of MNC College of Nalbari will be the chief guests. A souvenir titled Aamar Pothar edited by journalist Nabajyoti Pathak will be released by educationist Abani Kumar Bhagabati.
In the afternoon session of February 22, the Sukracharjya Kshetra will be opened by actor-director Pranjal Saikia, which will be followed by lighting of ceremonial earthen lamps before the portrait of Sukracharjya Rabha.
Eminent poet Dr Pankaj Gobinda Medhi will present a programme. Barnali Sarma, director of Cultural Affairs, Assam, will attend the Jatin Barman Memorial ‘Naat Abeli’ as the chief guest.
A play to be staged that day and titled Ekhon Gaonot Eta TV Asil, under the direction of Himangshu Prasad Das, will be inaugurated by Nalbari MLA Ashok Sarma.
Several plays, including XYZ of Cooch Behar, Naat Nopowa Korileo Paat of Nalbari, Virus of Morigaon, Puraskar of Surag Gosthi of Kailthalkuchi will be presented on February 23 and 24.
An organising committee has been formed with Purnima Pathak Saikia as president, Anup Mazumdar as working president, Bhupen Mishra, Dipak Barman and Champak Mishra as vice presidents, Mukul Idipas as total organiser and Udhab Chandra Thakuria as secretary respectively.
