Veteran athletics meet concludes

 IMPHAL, Feb 14 - Host Manipur emerged overall champions in the 41st National Masters Athletics Championship concluded at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal on Friday.

Manipur secured a total of 777 points while Assam bagged the runner up title with 667 points. Tamil Nadu was bagged third position with 405 points.

Manipur bagged the team champion title in women’s category with 454 points while Assam stood first in men’s category.

Around 4000 athletes from 27 States and Union Territories vie for a total of 250 medals in the championship which was started on February 10. The championship is being organised by the Manipur Master Athletics Association under the aegis of Master Athletics Federation of India.

Education Minister Th Radheshyam and Youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip were present during the day’s closing function.

Eralier, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Minister Karam Shyam, president of World Master Athletics Stan Perkins among others attended the opening ceremony.
